E Van Meerbeck Sampler Pattern
E Van Meerbeck Sampler Pattern
This early 19th-century Dutch sampler is 11 x 9 inches and was stitched on a pale gray 12 ct canvas-type material.
Miss "E" loved to drag threads across the back. By the time she got to the end of her sampler, it appears she did not leave enough room for her full name. It makes the sampler so charming and endearing.
I love all the imperfections. I kept them all! She was probably quite young when she stitched this. This was most likely a teaching sampler from school as the paper "file" tag is still attached to the sampler.
Design Area: 126 stitches wide by 109 stitches high
Stitched Area: 9 inches (22.9cm) wide by 7-3/4 inches (19.8cm) high
Fabric Size: 15 inches (38cm) wide by 14 inches (35cm)
this includes 3 inches (8cm) allowance on all sides for finishing or framing
The measurements given in the pattern are for 14ct/28ct fabric. This comes out pretty close to the original and is a perfect size for framing. This also would look really lovely stitched in blue with DMC 824. Any overdyed thread would also make a great choice. It would look so lovely on an even weave fabric like Lugana, even Aida cloth would work well. I think white would make a great contrasting choice to red or blue floss.
The pattern consists of a color image of the finished design, instructions, and a list of floss colors; A color & black and white symbol chart spread over several A4 sheets for printing.
