Mary Barr 1828 Sampler Pattern PDF
In 1828, at the young age of 12, Mary began working on a semi-traditional sampler that incorporated many traditional aspects, such as several upper-case alphabets but aligned vertically and horizontally in a decorative square design with the bottom rows stitched upside-down. She then adds many geometric shapes; triangles, diamonds, hexagons, etc., all in bold colors that sets her sampler well apart from the more traditional samplers of her day. Mary was born in Pennsylvania but more about this in a blog post.
Stitches Area: 283 W x 239 H stitches. The center is stitched solid, but there are many overdyed fabrics that would allow the negative space to shine instead of filling it with stitches. Also, variegated threads would look fantastic. Let your imagination go wild just like young Mary!
Fabric sizes: 20.25" x 17.00" for 28ct linen or 14ct Aida. If you choose 32ct/16ct it will measure 17.75" x 15, and on 36ct/18ct it will be
15.75" x 13.25". Add a 3" allowance for finishing or framing to these measurements for the size of fabric to purchase
