Lily M. Sweeting 1895 Sampler Pattern PDF
A sweet little miniature sampler only 5.5 by 4.5 inches. The tiny size gives it its appeal and charm. It could be stitched as a larger piece but the effect would be lost. Most likely the sampler is from England. I have found the school and a birth record of a matching Miss Sweeting nearby. A Board School is not the same as a "Boarding School". Board Schools were the first state-run schools.
Design is 111 stitches wide by 92 stitches high.Below are the different sizes for the various fabric counts. The Cut size includes an extra 3 inches on all four sides.
Design size:
14/28 count 8" by 6.5 " cut fabric 14 by 13 inches
16/32 count 7" by 5.75" cut fabric 13 by 12 inches
18/36 count 6.25" by 5.25" cut fabric 12 by 11 inches
20/40 count 5.5" by 4.5" cut fabric 12 by 11 inches
It would also look stunning on natural or overdyed linen. Aida can also be used but I don't think it comes in such a small size. The measurements given are for 40ct fabric. One strand of floss is used for all stitches and stitched over two fabric threads. The original was stitched on uneven linen but still measured 5.5 inches by 4.6 inches.
