Elizabeth was found in a small embroidered purse in Hollow Rock TN. I bought her from the Estate of Carole Wahler who passed away in 2023. Her famous stoneware collection was auctioned off in February 2025 fetching 1.34 million. This sampler was part of that collection. It had to live for a couple of weeks in the freezer because I wanted to be sure any infestation eating the wool threads was gone.
There is a possibility that the sampler originated from Virginia and was brought to Tennessee when the family moved. It requires more research.
The sampler was adapted for Aida and linen - which only changed the small verse across the top to be stitched over two, instead of over one. It did not change anything on the overall dimensions of the sampler, which is a miniature. There is a Flower thread conversion for those that like the wool look.
Design size is 100 by 116 stitches. The original is 6.25 by 6.5 inches stitched on un evenweave 32/36 count.
See last image for supplies.
The pattern consists of a color image of the finished design, instructions, and a list of floss colors; A color & black and white symbol chart. T
Thank you and happy stitching!
