Betty Ormandy 1832 Sampler Paper Chart
Betty Ormandy was Christened in May of 1821 her birth is recorded earlier about 1820. Her mother was Agnes (Dickinson) and her father was John Ormandy. They lived in Dalton in Furness, Lancashire, England. She had one sister and 4 brothers. She married Thomas Sale in February of 1840. They had a daughter named Agnes born that same year and Christened on the 18th of October 1840. She passed away at an early in 1877 in the same town she was born in.
Betty Ormandy stitched a very darling sampler featuring what looks like her beloved pet. Included is a rather morbid verse which is quite the opposite of the happy feel the sampler has. However, these types of verses were quite common in the 1800s. The verse is omitted in the adaptation to make all the elements fit and make the chart accessible to all. The restitch is longer than the orginal which was stitched on unevenweave linen.
The model was stitched on 40 count Vintage Country Mocha linen using Classic Colorworks overdyed cotton. Using one ply of floss. Adjust thread usage and ply accordingly if using a different count fabric. I can be stitched on Aida or linen.
