Anne Davies 1873 Sampler Paper Chart
Anne Davies’ Welsh sampler oozes charm. She fit so many beautiful motifs onto her sampler, with the bird taking center stage above Eve & Adam. Welsh samplers were always in tune with nature, which also shows with the plethora of flower baskets. She was born around 1860 and problably glad to be alive as yellow fever was going on around 1860-1865 in Wales. In my research I found families that had somtimes more than five children die during that peroid.
The original was stitched on a large canvas count using wool. Often it was so thick she could not make proper cross stitches. I checked all my overdyed linens to compare which matches the blotchy canvas and Zweigart's Vintage Country Mocha is a pretty close match. Use this as a guide when you choose a fabric.
