Motif Sampler 1820s Pattern PDF
A charming motif sampler from around 1820 by an unknown maker. There is some provenance listed in the pattern. It can easily be used to create multiple little pillows or scissor fobs. The single motifs would make charming ornaments
The model was worked on 36ct cream linen using silk threads. The DMC colors are the closest match, but not perfect.
18ct Aida would be the equivalent to the linen and can be used, it might be easier to stitch the 5 eyelets as Smyrna crosses. Instructions for both are below
Stitched Area: 49 x 254 stitches, 2-3/4 inches (6.9cm) wide by 14-1/4 inches (35.8cm) high
Fabric cut Size: 9 inches (22cm) wide by 20 inches (51cm) high, this includes a 3" (8cm) allowance on all sides for finishing or framing
Two strands of thread are used for all stitches in t for 14/28ct and 16/32ct, for 18/36ct either one or two strands (this is personal preference) 40ct uses 1 strand.
Further fabric size options:
14/28ct 3.5" x 18.25", cut fabric 10" x 24"
16/32ct 3" x 15.75", cut fabric 9" x 22"
18/36ctct 2.75" x 14.25", cut fabric 9" x 20"
40ct 2.5" x 12.75", cut fabric 8" x 19"
