The lion has long appeared in Dutch heraldry, while the seven arrows represent the seven provinces of the former Republic of the United Provinces. Bound together, the arrows symbolized unity and strength, an emblem that continued into the Kingdom of the Netherlands.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSurrounding the lions is an extraordinary garden of color. Large floral arrangements fill the center of the sampler, while smaller bouquets, stylized flowering plants and crowns create a beautifully balanced composition. A continuous floral border encloses the entire piece.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe original sampler has experienced considerable fading and deterioration over its long life.
